Swallet Wood Green Field Camp

Date: 3rd Mar 2024 Author: Damian

This weekend six Edmund Hillary Explorers – the Explorer unit that nests with 3rd Whitton – took part in a green field camp organised by 3rd Whitton Leaders.

Starting from Whitton Station, they travelled to Haslemere Station and then trekked 5 miles to the site at Swallet Wood.

An indoor camp takes place in a building that has built in lighting and cooking facilities, toilets plumbed into a waste disposal system, and permanent campsites have running drinking water and toilets plumbed into a waste disposal system such as a cess pit, storage tank or mains drains.

A Green Field camp by contrast takes place on a site with no plumbed toilets or ready access to running drinking water.

Having arrived on site the Explorers set up their tents, prepared the rest of the camp area and then had some free time to explore the woodand before cooking their dinner on the open fire.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
