Meeting Night Consultation

Date: 24th Feb 2024 Author: Damian

We are currently carrying out a parent survey to obtain views on a proposed change to meeting times.

We are in a brilliant position thanks to all you parents bringing along your young people and introducing new friends to us at 3rd Whitton.

With this brings an increase in our Section Numbers to the point that the hall really is not big enough for us to run full exciting and engaging programmes due to having two sections running alongside each other.

This means one section has to use the smaller room upstairs and with our numbers growing it’s not fair on any section to feel cramped in a small room when the young people have so much energy to let off!

We have been given the opportunity to move our Scout Section and Cub Section to a Wednesday evening, which means we can offer a longer session for Cubs to engage in more Scouting activities and have full use of the hall and then the Scouts would also run on a Wednesday evening, again having full use of the main hall and using the upstairs room for badge work, Duke Of Edinburgh training & Young Leader Training.

Beavers and Explorers would remain on a Friday evening at the same times.  This means that all sections have full use of the whole hall for badge work, games and outside work, like chopping wood and campfires to name a couple or activities where space is needed as our numbers increase.

The suggested new times are:

Cubs 6.30pm – 8.00pm

Scouts 7.30pm – 9.00pm

A link to the survey was emailed to all parents and guardians.  If you did not receive a link, please speak to a Uniformed Leader or member of the Group Executive.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
