There is a long tradition of Scouting in the Islamic World and Scouting is particularly
strong in nations such as Saudi Arabia and Indonesia.
Ibn Battuta was born in Tangier, Morocco some time between 1304 and 1307. At the age of around 20, he went on a pilgrimage to Mecca and then continued travelling, eventually covering about 75,000 miles over the length and breadth of the Muslim world, and beyond (about 44 modern countries).
