welcome

Robert Baden-Powell undertook his first experimental camp at Brownsea Island over the period 31 July to 9 August 1907. During that year, and into 1908, Baden-Powell was formulating the text Scouting for Boys which was published as a serial in 6 fortnightly parts (4d each) from 15 January 1908. The text was printed as a single edition later that year.  When Robert Baden-Powell took the group of 20 boys to camp to try out the “Scouting Method”, he probably couldn’t imagine that 100 years later the World Organisation for the Scout Movement (WOSM) would count 28 million members in 155 countries.

3rd Whitton Scout Group,  located in the north-western corner of the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, comprises two distinctive traditions - St Edmunds, founded by parishioners of St Edmund of Canterbury RC Church in Whitton and Ibn Battuta which was established more recently to serve the particular needs of Islamic and Muslim traditions. We think that this blend gives us a  unique identity in Scouting .
